IDC Report Names Schneider Electric a DCIM Market Leader

Analyst firm IDC calls Schneider Electric a Market Leader in their comprehensive worldwide DCIM vendor analysis

Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, has been named a Market Leader in the Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) space by analyst firm IDC. The report, which details the current climate and scope of the DCIM market, placed Schneider Electric in the highest category of Market Leader when compared to a wide range of competitor’s solutions.

IDC’s report, “IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Datacenter Infrastructure Management (DCIM) 2011 Vendor Analysis,” identifies the DCIM market as continuing to rapidly evolve with a number of vendors working to establish themselves within the space. The report, published in January of 2012, places Schneider Electric at the forefront of DCIM technology development and as an industry thought leader.

“Schneider Electric is an IDC MarketScape Leader worldwide,” the report stated. “Schneider performed well in the business capabilities and strategy criteria sections, particularly regarding its growth strategy, innovation, and employee management.” This evaluation was based on a comprehensive framework that assessed vendors across a wide variety of technical and operational criteria, weighted by factors IDC believed will be the most influential over the next three to five years.

WEST KINGSTON, RI (November 7, 2011)- Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today introduced StruxureWare™ Central v7.0, which includes updates to StruxureWare Central as well as the introduction of a virtual machine version of the application. The Central v7.0 platform brings further support to an open, vendor-neutral application that addresses data center management needs holistically by enabling data center professionals to manage their physical infrastructure while systematically maximizing uptime.

Highlights of the StruxureWare Central v7.0 platform include:

  • Virtual Machine Version – This new platform extends the options for deployment to the virtual environment. The software is available as a free download that includes support for five infrastructure devices and one surveillance camera. A license key is required to add additional devices and cameras;
  • Failover and Redundancy – The virtual machine version allows StruxureWare Central to take advantage of the high availability and fault tolerant options offered by the major VM vendors;
  • Virtual Sensors – Ability to sum and average like sensors for the purpose of graphing, trending and alarming, including determining the average temperature in a row or room, the total power in a rack, etc.;

Forecasting and measuring the total cost of ownership (TCO) for Data Center Physical Infrastructure (DCPI) is essential for return-on-investment (ROI) analysis. Oversizing is the main contributor to excess TCO. Oversizing creates inefficiencies in the data center including excess capital cost, operating cost, and specifically energy cost. The average data center operator can achieve the highest return investment in relation to DCPI through rightsizing.
